Plogging - ecological fitness. What is it?
Plogging, or green fitness. Do you know what it is? Plogging is a solution to the growing global health threat of obesity and the escalating ecological crisis related to waste. It involves walking or jogging while picking up litter, and its popularity is growing worldwide. Since 2017, plogging has become a global phenomenon. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, by 2050, the amount of plastic in the oceans will outweigh the amount of fish by a ratio of 34 to 1. Microplastics can be found everywhere - in Antarctica, at the summit of Mount Everest, and even in the human placenta. Birds and fish can ingest plastic, or it can break down into microplastics that enter groundwater, rivers, and soil.
There are many ways to describe plogging, which was initially started in Sweden. Plogging is an environmentally friendly way to run, which involves collecting litter and recyclable materials from local areas and then taking them to the nearest recycling station or bringing them home for disposal.
The advantage of plogging is that it can be done in a small amount of time during your commute to work or back home. The only issue with this type of green fitness method is that it’s not a sport, so it cannot be associated with any competitions or sporting events. However, it still has many environmental benefits, and as long as you don't consider plogging a full-fledged sport, it can help keep hope alive and earn a little extra money at the same time.
So why plogging?
It is the fastest-growing trend in fitness and physical activity.
The world is becoming increasingly competitive, and people around the globe are looking for ways to stay fit and healthy. A healthy lifestyle with a positive impact on the environment can be one of the best ways to lead a healthy life. It is also a form of physical activity that requires no special equipment or skills. Anyone can do it.
In Scandinavia, where plogging has existed for years, it was also an important part of national culture during the Viking era and later. It has now become a popular way of life in other countries such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
You might think that plogging is just another crazy diet. But it isn’t. I started plogging a few years ago when I found myself alone in a park one day. I saw people wandering around with plastic bags collecting litter, and I thought it would be fun to do the same. It’s still a challenge!
So why should you do it? Well, here are a few benefits:
- You create added value for your community by helping to protect the environment.
- You dedicate yourself to your community by assisting in its clean-up efforts.
- You dedicate yourself to yourself by becoming financially independent, no longer having to pay for retail goods in stores.
- You get free stuff!
What do you need to start plogging?
Put on running shoes, protective gloves, and a trash bag. When picking up litter, squat down, doing deep squats, or lean down on one leg. Carry the bag of collected rubbish alternately in each hand. Choose different routes to avoid getting bored to death. And most importantly, wash your hands after returning home! It’s great fun, so remember to keep a good sense of humour.
