European Centre of Fairytales named after Koziołek Matołek
“In Pacanów, goats make shoes
so the clever Koziołek,
wanders around the whole world,
to reach Pacanów.”
This is probably the most famous phrase from "The Strange Adventures of Koziołek Matołek" by Kornel Makuszyński. Koziołek Matołek is over 80 years old and has been constantly entertaining readers during this time. On the seventieth birthday of the fairytale creature, in 2003 the first institution was established as the foundation of the Centre of Fairytales. In 2010, a modern building of the European Centre of Fairytales was created, which is eagerly visited every year by groups and individual tourists. The Centre is located at Kornel Makuszyński Street 1, near the marketplace. It can be visited from April to October. Guided tours are conducted by guides dressed as fairytale characters. The tours take place in groups of 15 and last about 1.5 hours. In addition to the building, it's also worth seeing the surrounding gardens, where coffee and ice cream are served, as well as the bookstore and souvenir shop located in the building. Besides the tours, numerous cultural events are organized at the European Centre of Fairytales.
