How to get there...[#1] - to Westerplatte
Westerplatte - a part of Gdańsk - a peninsula located in the north-eastern part of the city. This site is associated with the historical attack of German troops on Poland on 1st September 1939, which is commonly regarded as the beginning of World War II.
Currently, it is a popular destination for tourists. You can reach Westerplatte by public transport - bus line 106 or by your own vehicle. The avenue leading to Westerplatte from the centre of Gdańsk is Major Sucharski Avenue. There is a paid parking lot at the entrance to Westerplatte. Close to the parking (about half a kilometer towards the centre) is a pier for cruise ships, which can take you from the areas of Żuraw, "Green Bridge," and the Old Town of Gdańsk.
There is approximately a half-kilometre avenue leading from the parking lot to the monument of the Defenders of the Coast located on the mound. Along the way, you can see the cemetery of those who fell defending Westerplatte, the remains of bunkers, a guardhouse, and themed exhibitions. This is an important tourist attraction and an incredibly interesting place in Poland.
