Marsze na Orientację - what is this ABOUT? #2
Orienteering marches - a discipline of qualified tourism originating from the Polish Tourism and Landscape Association (PTTK). The competitions in Orienteering involve the Participant passing through a stage (one or several) using a modified map and confirming (finding in the field) the correct Control Points.
One stage usually has about 4 kilometres, and the time to find the Points and correctly arrange the map is adjusted so that it is indeed possible to cover the distance by walking. The number of stages depends on the rank of the competition - local and regional events (usually one- or two-stage) as well as national events (three-, four- or even five-stage), which are typically held from Friday to Sunday with accommodation in tourist conditions.
Currently, Orienteering competitions are organized by various circles, clubs, associations, and even companies. Orienteering events are held almost every weekend throughout Poland. Every year, the eight largest events create a cycle of the Polish Cup. The website of the InO Commission, where you can find current information about the Cup - www.ino.pttk.pl. We will also inform about the upcoming events from this cycle in the events section on our website.
Orienteering marches, often abbreviated as MnO or InO (from the Events in Orienteering), are an excellent way to spend free time, discover new places and people, and above all, improve your navigation skills in the field.
