What winter attractions do tourists most eagerly choose in Zakopane?
Winter attractions in Zakopane most often chosen by tourists
More and more tourists are coming to Zakopane in winter each year, eager to enjoy the attractions available only at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Let’s take a look at the attractions visitors have been enjoying the most in recent years.
Mountain hike
A mountain hike might be a bit of an exaggeration, as the highest peaks are only accessible to seasoned climbers with the appropriate equipment in winter. Casual tourists most commonly visit Morskie Oko. It seems to be a must-have for almost every tourist, and it's no surprise as, in beautiful weather, the snow-covered peaks of the Tatras look majestic from this spot. Of course, sunny weather attracts hordes of tourists, so be prepared for crowds on the trail. It's also worth mentioning that in winter, it’s advisable to bring crampons, as there might be ice on some parts of the trail, making safe movement difficult.
If you are looking for less frequented, but still easily accessible trails, consider visiting the Kościeliska Valley, Chochołowska Valley or Rusinowa Polana.
Thermal pools
These attractions are absolutely for everyone, and in winter, you should expect crowds at the thermal baths, especially during the Christmas and New Year period. The most popular thermal baths close to Zakopane are Termy Chochołowskie, but you can also head to Termy Bania in Białka Tatrzańska or to Gorący Potok located in Szaflary, which, for me, has a distinctly favorable atmosphere.
Traditional Highlander Sleigh Ride
Most visitors to Zakopane in winter also choose to go on a sleigh ride pulled by horses. There are many companies in Zakopane offering sleigh rides, but it's worth considering those that take place on Gubałówka (due to the panoramic views of the Tatras) or in the Chochołowska Valley (the sleigh ride takes place within the Tatra National Park).
Snowmobile expedition
This attraction is definitely for active individuals, as physical fitness is required. Riding a snowmobile through snow-covered forests and meadows is an incredible experience, especially if you usually live in a city. The trails lead through unurbanized areas outside the city with beautiful views of the Tatras. Prices for excursions typically start from 250 PLN per hour of riding. Two popular rental companies located in Zakopane are Ride Side and Snowdoo, both located on Gubałówka.

Other attractions in Zakopane worth noting
In addition to the mentioned attractions, it's also worth trying dog sledding, snow tubing, visiting a snowy maze, or skiing down Kasprowy Wierch.
