City Break - an interesting idea not just for the weekend
Sometimes, each of us needs a break and a change of scenery to "reset," catch our breath, and maintain balance. However, we cannot always afford a long holiday. A good way to detach from professional responsibilities and daily routines is a city break. What should we keep in mind when organizing it?
A city break is becoming an increasingly popular idea for spending a free weekend or simply a short holiday. This few-day, active exploration of a city we choose as our trip destination is an excellent opportunity for a quick getaway in the company of a partner, family, or friends, exploring interesting places, local entertainment, or tasting regional dishes.
– Weekend getaways are gaining more and more popularity. People choosing this form of relaxation are increasingly seeing it as a way to take care of their work-life balance. Such short, but more frequent trips help to quickly catch a breath, clear the mind, and recharge life’s batteries, allowing us to discover how fascinating the world around us is in small portions. It is no wonder that more and more people are changing their perspective on holidays and beginning to manage them to relax more often than just once a year – notes Beatrice Bouchet, head of the Polish branch of the B&B Hotels chain.
It’s easy to praise what others have without knowing your own
The destination of the trip could be a large European capital, but you don’t have to leave the country to enjoy charming views, fantastic monuments, or experience new sensations, as Polish destinations also have much to offer tourists – architecturally, recreationally, culturally, and gastronomically.
Wawel Hill, the Cloth Hall, and St. Mary’s Church are just a few of the sights we will admire in Krakow. In Wroclaw, one can discover the largest zoo in Poland with its Africanarium, recreational areas around Centennial Hall with its stunning Japanese Garden and multimedia fountain, the beautiful Market Square, the atmospheric Ostrów Tumski, and the Panorama of the Battle of Racławice. Warsaw also has a lot to offer – the Royal Route, the Royal Castle, the Palace of Culture and Science, the National Museum, and the Copernicus Science Centre are just the beginning of a long list of places worth visiting in the capital. Toruń, on the other hand, is worth a trip just to see the Teutonic Castle, the Old Town Market Square, and the Living Gingerbread Museum, as well as take a stroll along the Toruń Philadephia Boulevard. In Łódź, you must see the Manufaktura with the adjacent Palace of Israel Poznański, called the Polish Louvre, numerous murals, or Piotrkowska Street, which is the longest pedestrian street in Poland. Spodek, Nikiszowiec, and the Silesian Museum are just the beginning of what Katowice has to offer. Meanwhile, in Rzeszów, it's worth visiting the Lubomirski Castle and Summer Palace, and in Nowy Targ – the Market Square, the markets, the Podhale Museum or the Printing Museum.
– Polish cities are a real treasure trove of attractions. Each has its history, secrets, monuments, and unique atmosphere, but let’s remember that their surroundings often abound in extraordinary places worth seeing. Thus, it is not only a good trip destination but also a great base for exploring the entire region – adds Beatrice Bouchet.
Planning is the key to a successful trip
To ensure our sightseeing does not boil down solely to chaotic wandering, it is worth considering in advance which landmarks we want to see and which places to visit. When planning a city break, we should also look for information about local delicacies that can provide us with unforgettable culinary experiences.
To make the most of every hour spent in the visited metropolis, it's also worth thinking about where we will be staying. A great option for a city break is hotels in the city centre. – A convenient location of accommodation ensures easy access to city attractions and a rich culinary and entertainment offering, giving us time for sightseeing – suggests Beatrice Bouchet.
Once everything is planned, we just need to pack our bags. It is also worth doing thoughtfully. Remember that we are going away for just a few days, not for two weeks or a month. However, let's be prepared for various weather scenarios. A city break is primarily focused on sightseeing and walking, so don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes for starting our adventure peacefully.
