The Świętokrzyskie Mountains – a unique idea for a holiday trip
The Świętokrzyskie Mountains are somewhat forgotten by tourists but are a beautiful and enchanting place worth visiting. A trip there for a holiday is definitely worthwhile. This is a relatively low mountain range located in the central part of the Kielce Upland. While the Świętokrzyskie Mountains may not offer as breathtaking landscapes as the Tatra Mountains, they compensate with a tranquil retreat in nature, far from the crowds of other holidaymakers.
What to see in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains?
The Świętokrzyskie Mountains are the second oldest mountain range in Poland after the Sudetes. The highest peaks are Łysica and Łysa Góra. On the latter, there is a monastery on Łysica - one of the oldest places of worship that pilgrims traveled to. It is worthwhile to get acquainted with the many legends and stories related to this place - they are incredibly interesting and one can learn many curiosities from them.
One day is worth reserving for a trip to the Castle in Chęciny and the Raj Cave. The building dates back to the 13th century. It is a royal castle, and you can climb the observation tower to admire the mountain panorama. The Raj Cave, on the other hand, is one of the most famous caves in Poland. The length of the underground route is as much as 180 meters, and what is particularly interesting is that visitors can see the tools used by the Neanderthals who inhabited the cave around 50,000 years ago.
In the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, you can also visit a site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Prehistoric Flint Mines in Krzemionki. Various types of interactive museums, manors, and residences are available to tourists, including those of Henryk Sienkiewicz and Stefan Żeromski.
Active recreation in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The Świętokrzyskie Mountains may not be high, but they can be extraordinarily surprising.
