Polish Spisz for Everyone [#04] - Niedzica
For enthusiasts of domestic tourism and beyond, Niedzica is mainly associated with Brunhilda, or possibly the Incan princess Umina. These are undoubtedly the most famous inhabitants of this Spiš town. However, Niedzica has much more to offer than just a medieval castle full of legendary figures.
It's worth stopping in the "centre" of the village and checking out the church dedicated to St. Bartholomew, which dates back to the 14th century. The unassuming structure houses gems such as a polychrome from 1410, historic organs, and the painting "The Martyrdom of St. Bartholomew," a rarity on a European scale.
Another interesting place in Niedzica is the dam. Here, it's not only about its crown, which can be walked on while photographing against a three-dimensional backdrop. The dam can also be explored from the inside. With prior reservation on one of the three routes, visitors can enjoy a walk on the internal viewing balcony, the generator hall, and the machine room where gigantic turbines are housed.
If someone prefers monuments over machines, they will find many in the immediate vicinity. On a smaller scale. The Spiš Land Amusement Park located right by the crown of the dam is ideal entertainment for both young and old. Children will delight in the rope park, inflatable slide, and castle, as well as the rafting course. Adults will appreciate the Miniature Park, which features copies of the most important monuments in the region at a scale of 1:20, along with the adjacent park showcasing models of the most significant Marian cultural centres. Tickets to the miniature world cost 12 PLN for a standard ticket and 10 PLN for a discounted ticket. The rope park offers family tickets starting from 40 PLN.
Niedzica is also a great place for food lovers. Besides numerous restaurants offering regional dishes, you can also try authentic oscypek straight from the shepherd's hut located on the outskirts of the village, along the route to Sromowce.
As you can see, Niedzica offers many tourist attractions on the way to Brunhilda.
