Museum of Fashion History
Posnan offers tourists and residents many attractions. Among them are cinemas, theatres, recreational areas, entertainment centres, and museums. Among the latter, the well-known National Museum leads the way. It would be a sin to be in the capital of Greater Poland and not visit it. However, there are other museums in Poznań, smaller but equally interesting. One of them is the Museum of Fashion History – a true gem on the cultural map of the city.
The uniqueness of this museum is evidenced by the fact that, unlike other municipal museums, it is a private initiative. The vast majority of the exhibits are the private property of Ms. Anna Moryto, and the last of the presented collections was prepared and maintained in cooperation with, among others, the Mundi Plumarii Foundation. So, what does the collection contain?
As you might easily guess, these are clothes. This time, 19th-century dresses are presented on mannequins. Some of them are reconstructions, but there are also original outfits, such as a princess-style dress, made from a garnet-coloured wool fabric. It was hand-sewn in the 1870s. The exhibition is complemented by boards with commentary, as well as depictions of historical figures dressed similarly to those presented in the exhibition. This perfectly captures the atmosphere of the era. And when a guide accompanies the tour, you can truly embark on a journey through time.
The Museum of Fashion History is located at Kwiatowa Street 14/2. It is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 11:00 to 15:00, with slightly longer hours on Saturdays and Sundays – until 17:00. Tickets are priced at 12 PLN for standard admission and 8 PLN for concessions, and can be purchased directly before the visit.
