Czartowe Pole translates to "Czartowe Field".
While in Roztocze, it is worth visiting the picturesque Czartowe Pole reserve, located near the village of Hamernia. It embodies the essence of Roztocze - beautiful forests and meandering, clear streams - in this case, the Sopot River. The reserve was established in 1958, and its aim is to protect the landscape of the Sopot River valley, the charms of Roztocze, and the Solska Forest. The name comes from a legend that states - "only devils frolicked there". Along the trail, we can also find the ruins of a paper mill from the 19th century that once belonged to the Zamoyski Ordinance.
Visiting the reserve starts and ends at a forest car park located along the main road from Józefów to Susiec. There is a nature trail developed here, which through 7 stops marked with educational boards, clearly leads through the reserve. The route can be traversed in both directions - one part "above" goes through the forest, while the other - much more interesting, with wooden footbridges and the ruins of the paper mill - runs along the Sopot. The length of the trail is about 1.5 kilometres. This means that visiting Czartowe Pole takes about 40 minutes to an hour, making it an additional point to see on the route of an excursion through Roztocze.
