Dunajec Castle in Niedzica
Dunajec Castle in Niedzica - an impressive structure built in the 14th century by the Berzeviczy family. The greatest mystery of the castle is connected to Peru. In the mid-18th century, in search of wealth and adventures, Sebastian Berzeviczy left for South America, where he married an Indian woman from a noble lineage. Their daughter Umina married the nephew of the leader of the Indian uprising against the Spanish colonisers. When the revolt was suppressed, the entire family fled to Italy, where Umina's husband was killed. Sebastian, along with his daughter and grandson, returned to Niedzica, but the Spaniards found them there too. Umina was murdered, and the hidden Sebastian, in the presence of Indian chiefs, entrusted his grandson Antonio for adoption to his nephew Wacław Benesz. The adoption document contained information about the undiscovered Inca treasure, which was hidden at the bottom of Lake Titicaca.
Today, Dunajec Castle attracts crowds of tourists. Once it guarded the Polish-Hungarian border, today it is located near the Polish-Slovak border. It is an incredibly interesting place in Poland with a rich history and picturesque views of Lake Czorsztyn and the Pieniny landscapes.
