Olesnica
Olésnica can be seen from afar. Although located in a lowland area, it stands out on the horizon with its numerous towers, which have become the city's hallmark. Just like the OFCA summer festival. To experience the latter, one must visit Olésnica in the summer when it transforms into a land of circus arts and acrobatics during the annual Olésnica Circus and Arts Festival. In 2018, the circus performers will take over the city from August 10 to 12, and details about the event can be found on the organiser's website.
While OFCA takes place in Olésnica for only 3 days, other attractions and interesting places await tourists all year round. And there is much to see. Above all, the sites with their characteristic towers. The most famous of these is the Duke's Castle, which was built in the 14th century. It is one of the largest and best-preserved examples of this type of building in Lower Silesia. The castle is open year-round. Guided tours are available from June to October on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 and 14:00, and on any other day by prior arrangement. Interestingly, it is also possible to stay overnight at the castle, which is a good option when visiting Wrocław, located just under 30 km away.
Other noteworthy "towers" in Olésnica are the sacred buildings. Of particular note is the Pentecostal church on Łużycka Street. The building dates back to the 14th century and was originally built as a synagogue. It is one of the oldest structures of its kind in Poland. Throughout its history, it has served as an Evangelical-Augsburg congregation, a magazine, and an arsenal.
While wandering the streets of Olésnica, it is also worth seeing the Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity, the Minor Basilica, the 15th-century Town Hall, and the remnants of the city walls with the characteristic Wrocław Gate.
And when staring at the towers begins to strain your neck, you can relax by one of the city ponds that make up the Olésnica recreational complex.
