The best places for the May weekend 2022 in Poland
The May long weekend is a symbolic start of the warm half of the year in Poland. We will increasingly venture outdoors and relax in nature. It is also an opportunity for the first longer holiday away from home. How long does the May weekend last, when does it start, and where is the best place to spend it? We checked.
When is the May long weekend?
The May long weekend is a customary name for the beginning of this month. The reason is quite simple. The holidays on May 1st and May 3rd provide an opportunity to plan a longer than usual weekend and relaxation.
This year, the May holiday will start on Saturday, April 30th. Unfortunately, one of the two public holidays will fall on a Sunday – May 1st. Therefore, this year's May holiday will be slightly shorter than in other years; however, by cleverly using vacation days, one can plan quite a long relaxation away from home.
How long will the May holiday be in 2022?
It will start on Saturday, April 30th, and end on Tuesday, May 3rd, provided we ensure that the holiday on Monday, May 2nd, is a day off from work. In some companies, this is a top-down decision from superiors; in others, it is necessary to request vacation for that day. In the shortest version, the May holiday will last four days. However, if we use an additional three days of vacation, we can rest for up to 9 days, which is quite a lot for a May holiday.
Is it worth spending the May holiday in Poland?
Cynics will undoubtedly say that the weather at the beginning of May is uncertain and that planning a holiday during this time is pointless. Optimists, on the other hand, will note that relaxation is possible at any time of the year, especially in places that offer a range of attractions regardless of the weather.
For some people, four days might be a bit too short to plan an overseas holiday. There are many reasons to spend the May holiday in Poland:
– easy access by car even to the farthest corners of the country,
– relatively short travel time,
– no restrictions on the amount of luggage,
– ease of communication – lack of foreign language skills can be an obstacle to traveling,
– if the weather truly does not cooperate, you can quickly return home.
Moreover, the May holiday in Poland is an excellent opportunity to explore parts of the country that are often overlooked during summer holidays.
Best spots for the May holiday 2022
The sea and mountains are the two most popular destinations for relaxation in Poland; however, it is better to save them for the summer holidays. At the beginning of May, many tourist attractions are still unavailable, and the weather in Poland's extreme regions can be extreme. For the May holiday, it's better to head inland.
Agrotourism trips, especially to Podlasie and Kujawy, are very popular during this period.
Warmia and Masuria are also good choices. Although swimming in lakes may not be possible in May, we can enjoy the closeness of spring forests, go for walks, delight in the sight of swans and ducks swimming, and admire the sunrise. The climate here is much milder than by the sea or in the mountains. And there's one more plus – there are no mosquitoes at the beginning of May. For these reasons, everything suggests that this year's May weekend hit will be the May holiday with ITAKA in Ostróda.
Where to stay for the May holiday?
Camping cabins at the beginning of May may not necessarily be the best choice. Even if the days are very warm, the nights can be quite cool. If you're not going to an agrotourism farm, a better option would be to rent an apartment that is fully equipped. The absolute minimum should include a kitchenette, but usually in an apartment, you will also find a television, a hairdryer, a set of cosmetics and towels in the bathroom, and access to wireless internet.
