Traveling, even within Poland, can seem expensive. There is always a way to manage, even for budget holidays – you just need to know a few tricks.
Book in advance
This applies to everything – accommodations, train and plane tickets, or museum entry tickets. Prices rise as we get closer to the summer season, so the earlier we start looking for holiday ideas, the better. This is particularly true for accommodation. Whether we use the booking.com website or call "Irena's Guesthouse" directly, a last-minute decision can mean prices that are up to 100% higher. In Poland, last-minute options are not very cost-effective. If we travel by train or plane within Poland, we can also find better deals a few months in advance. Some museums also offer lower ticket prices if we purchase online.
Avoid eateries on main streets
One of the biggest costs when traveling is food. Fortunately, there are ways to save. Of course, the cheapest option is to prepare meals in a rented room, but holidays are not meant for standing over pots. In an apartment or guesthouse, you can have breakfast and then go out for lunch. The trick is to avoid main streets, squares, and promenades. It doesn’t matter whether we are exploring Wrocław, Ustka, or a mountain village – the main tourist spots tend to have the highest prices. Sometimes, it’s enough to venture just a little deeper into the alleys, or travel a bit further inland, and you'll see much lower prices. A little research online before lunch can also work wonders.
Look for deals
During holidays, but not only then, many places offer promotions. Museums often have a day of the week when admission is free, and the same applies to certain hours or periods in the season. If we want to save, it's worth searching before the holiday for places that offer cheaper attractions – for example, a water park located a bit out of town or a corn maze. Traveling around Poland can be affordable; you just need to have your own strategies.
