Academic Thatch
Strzecha Akademicka – the PTTK hostel (considered to be the oldest in the region) is located within the Karkonosze National Park, at an altitude of 1258 m above sea level, just 10 minutes away from the "Samotnia" hostel, at the main junction of summer and winter trails in the Karkonosze Mountains. Currently, the base offers 140 accommodation places. There is a ski lift and the "Złotówka" ski slope near the hostel. The hotel building was constructed in 1907.
The name "Strzecha Akademicka" was created in the first years after World War II when the building was owned by students from Krakow universities.
After 1989, it underwent thorough modernization, with a new copper roof installed, windows replaced throughout the hostel, and sanitary facilities and showers renovated. The hostel has been equipped with a sauna and other recreational facilities.
The atmosphere in the hostel refers to hunting, and in the dining room, you can see a very old tile stove made of green ceramics.
