Airport Żar
The Mountain Glider School and the sporting Żar Airport, located at the foot of Mount Żar in Międzybrodzie Żywieckie (about 9 km east of Bielsko-Biała), are available all year round, but the most interesting time is in summer when the gliding season thrives.
The first historical flights were made here in the autumn of 1935. In 1936, the infrastructure began to be built, and since 1937, a legendary glider school has been operating here, taking advantage of the exceptional geographical conditions to provide training for glider pilots from all over Poland. Competitions of the Polish Championships level are held here.
Since the pre-war period, the school has been associated with record-breaking individuals and champions of Poland, Europe, and the world, as well as test pilots, such as Tadeusz Góra, Adam Zientek, Stanisław Wielgus, and the current multiple World Champion, Sebastian Kawa.
