Polish Spisz for Everyone [#02] - Trybsz
Trybsz is one of the lesser-known villages in the Polish Spisz region. Located right by its north-western border, it welcomes all visitors to the area. Given its small size - just under 12 square kilometres - Trybsz offers tourists a wealth of opportunities.
The first attraction is the Białka River. It is after crossing this river that we reach the village. Białka is the only alpine river in Poland. This is a rarity in the country, especially for fishing enthusiasts. However, you don’t have to be a fishing lover to admire this place. The fast-flowing current and crystal-clear water invite relaxation. For those who cannot sit still for too long, a short walk alongside the river's course is a good option. This way, one can reach the picturesque gorge of the Białka River, formed by two rocks – Kramica and Obłazowa. It is in the cave of the latter that the only boomerang found in Poland and the oldest in the world, dating back 30 thousand years, was discovered. Unfortunately, the entrance to the cave is closed, but keen observers will certainly notice numerous fossils on the walls of Obłazowa, including ammonites.
Kramica and Obłazowa are also a treat for rock climbers. There are 30 climbing routes available. The more challenging ones are over 30 meters high on Kramica and shorter, less secure ones on Obłazowa. After thoroughly exploring the area, it’s worth moving on to discover the village itself. Its underrated gem is the wooden church built in 1567, dedicated to St. Elizabeth of Hungary. It impresses not only from the outside. It hides true wonders inside. The richly decorated polychrome depicts the Last Judgment, set against the backdrop of the Tatra Mountains. The visible band on the wooden ceiling featuring the distinctive Hawran and Płaczliwa Skała is the oldest representation of the Tatras in Poland. To see it, you should visit Trybsz on a weekend. The church is open to visitors on Fridays and Saturdays from 09:00 to 18:00, and on Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00.
