Spring gardening - what should we focus on first?
Spring is the time when nature fully awakens after its winter slumber. It is a period of bloom, sunshine, occasional rain, and most importantly, it is the perfect time to start working in the garden. This is when garden work is at its peak. First and foremost, it is important to begin with a general tidy-up and preparation of the space so that we can implement the next steps later. Very often after winter, we find plenty of leaves, dry grass, and branches to clear away. All of this should be collected with a rake in order to prepare the lawn for reseeding or to create a spot where we will plant more plants this season.
It's worth taking care of our lawn
If we want to enjoy a beautiful, well-maintained, and dense lawn later, it is necessary to focus on aerating the soil in spring. This is an important factor if we want to sow some seeds and strengthen our lawn. Loosening the soil will make the grass grow more lushly afterwards. When the soil has been aerated, it is advisable to reseed some grass in the areas where our lawn looks sparse due to thinning, in order to thicken the green carpet. If we notice that there were really severe frosts this season, and our grass does not look very good, then we can additionally strengthen the soil with fertilizer that will provide the appropriate nutrients for our garden. When it comes to the lawn in spring, it is advisable to wait a few weeks until the grass sprouts and then carry out the first mowing. With regular watering and mowing, we can be sure that this season the grass will be beautiful and lush.
Vegetables and herbs in our garden
For many people, an important aspect of any garden or allotment is the plants in the form of flowers and vegetables. Therefore, in spring, it’s worthwhile to ensure that we sow seeds into the soil from which we want to harvest crops multiple times throughout the year. It’s good to equip ourselves with basic plants that thrive in almost any soil. Chives, lettuce, tomatoes, herbs like dill, parsley, or mint are excellent choices for sowing in your garden. On one hand, these plants do not require a lot of work, and on the other, they provide very fruitful yields that we will be able to enjoy for a long time.
Flower seedlings and hedge maintenance - tasks worth doing in the garden in spring
It is also worth carving out a space in your garden where you can plant flower seedlings. Blooming, colourful, and fragrant flowers add incredible charm. They please the eye and allow us to enjoy a piece of our own greenery. Flowers often require slightly better soil, rich in various micronutrients. Therefore, it’s a good idea to buy a bag of universal soil, which will allow such plants to thrive and bloom at the right time of the season in our garden. A very important element to remember in spring is trimming our hedges and ornamental shrubs, to give them the right shape and to cut away dry or frozen shoots and branches. This will allow our garden plants to develop peacefully. If we have plants in our garden that we wrapped up for the winter, now - in spring, when temperatures are significantly higher, is the right time to remove the wrapping and take care of them. If we manage to quickly and efficiently carry out all the necessary work in the garden or allotment, we will then be able to enjoy our piece of greenery while sipping delicious coffee and relaxing in a comfortable armchair.
