Cycling path around Lake Czorsztyn
Cycling enthusiasts for whom the Spiska Loop is a bit too demanding, or those who simply seek a leisurely ride among beautiful landscapes, will find Lake Czorsztyn and its surrounding areas to be an ideal option. The border between Podhale, Spisz, and Pieniny offers a new cycling route - a loop around Lake Czorsztyn, which is a fantastic solution for those who dislike returning the same way and appreciate riding on smooth asphalt amidst greenery.
The cycling trail around the lake is part of the Velo Dunajec network, measuring 237 kilometres in length (only the southern shores from Niedzica to the bridge in Dębno, with the southern section passing through the protected area of the Pieniny National Park). The loop itself is about 40 kilometres of riding with wonderful views of the Pieniny, Tatras, Gorce, and the blue waters of Lake Czorsztyn. The route can be tackled in stages, in any direction, passing through: Niedzica – Falsztyn – Frydman – Dębno – Maniowy – Mizerna – Kluszkowce – Czorsztyn – Hałuszowa – Sromowce Wyżne – Niedzica. The direction from Niedzica towards Sromowce is more accessible, as the ascent to the Osice Pass at 668 m above sea level, which is the highest point of the loop, is more gradual than in the opposite direction. Notable along the trail are two majestic castles overlooking the lake: Dunajec Castle and Czorsztyn Castle (both worth exploring on separate trips). There are resting places along the route (Cyclist Service Areas equipped with shelters for refuge), newly built footbridges and culverts, as well as numerous access spurs. The path is well marked with distinctive orange Velo signs. Cycling around Lake Czorsztyn offers a mix where everyone can find something for themselves: mountains, water, forests, and all viewed from a cyclist's perspective.
