Cycling around Jeziorsko
Lake Jeziorsko is the second largest artificial water reservoir in Poland. Its location on the border of the Łódź and Greater Poland voivodeships in the heart of Poland makes it easily accessible for tourists. The area around the reservoir features green spaces, farmland, and forest complexes. There are no large industrial plants in the vicinity. The air here is clean, and street traffic is low. The infrastructure for enjoying the benefits provided by the lake allows for the development of various leisure activities. Not only in the towns located directly along the shoreline can one find places to pitch a tent, park a camper, or set up a caravan, but also rental holiday cottages. Such locations include Pęczniew, Wylazłów, Siedlątków, Księże Młyny, Kościanki, Ostrów Warcki, and many others.
Ostrów Warcki mentioned above serves as a base for water sports enthusiasts, such as water skiing, where we can find modern equipment for practicing this sport as well as accommodation. At the bay in Wylazłów near Pęczniew, one can rent water sports equipment, but if we have our own boat, it can be launched at the slipway. A marina was recently established in the bay, and in its vicinity, we can enjoy fish dishes and find accommodation. If our stay is secured, it is worth mentioning another form of active recreation that can be successfully pursued. The location of the reservoir is ideal for cycling around it. The route is relatively flat, with slight elevation changes. The length of the route is approximately 56 km, and at a speed of about 14 km/h, it can be completed in around 4 hours. The trail leads along paved roads through smaller towns. On the national road no. 83 (the Sieradz-Turek route), one must prepare for slightly more vehicle traffic.
The adventure can last significantly longer if enriched with local attractions. The southern part of the lake consists of marshy and poldere areas, but it also contains a nature reserve and a silence zone. It is an area where the movement of motorboats is prohibited due to the presence of many bird habitats. Near the village of Glinno, one can stop at one of the bunkers remaining from the battles of the September 1939 campaign. By the Warta river, one can take a break and look around the polders of the River Warta, which are flooded by its waters in the spring. In Warta, one can also visit the Museum of the City and Commune of Warta to learn more about the area.
Opportunities are abundant, and observing nature from the saddle of a bicycle is a very interesting proposal for a weekend away from the city. The ubiquitous greenery creates ideal conditions for body regeneration and a break from the urban jungle.
