Pogoria III Lake
Pogoria, or the Dąbrowskie Lakes
If you live in southern Poland and dream of a moment of relaxation by the water, you must visit the Dąbrowskie Lakes in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Pogoria – as the complex of four water reservoirs is called – is a great attraction for lovers of Masurian lakes. Relaxation at Pogoria is an ideal solution for families, as it offers activities for both those who enjoy spending time actively and those who appreciate relaxation on the beach. What certainly attracts tourists are the beautiful beaches and bathing areas. Pogoria is also a mecca for anglers, who particularly enjoy this spot.
How did it originate and where did its name come from?
All four reservoirs are flooded sand extraction sites that were mined for the nearby mines. Interestingly, one of the reservoirs partially filled from a nearby stream – Pogoria (a tributary of the Black Przemsza), which is where the entire complex got its name. It is worth adding that the extraction sites were not rehabilitated; nature had the chance to regenerate completely on its own, becoming an oasis of tranquility for many species of animals and plants.
Pogoria III
The lake, under a quiet zone, tempts with clean water and a beautiful pier. The area is well-maintained and well-prepared, even in terms of catering, which draws large crowds of tourists. You'll find public parking, playgrounds, toilets, rental services for water equipment, bikes, and even go-karts. A big plus is the safe swimming area monitored by lifeguards. There are cycling paths and walking trails around the lake, used not only by cyclists but also by runners and rollerbladers. Pogoria III is a paradise for diving and windsurfing enthusiasts.
Cycling path around Pogoria III
Fans of family bike trips will be delighted with the loop around the lake. The route is very calm, running on asphalt with virtually no elevation gain – just 5 m over 6 km. It’s best to start your ride at the main beach. At the pier, turn right towards the bridge, then turn left before reaching it. From there, the asphalt path will lead you on its own. If you crave a little adrenaline, you can opt for a less frequented dirt road along the shore of the lake. Remember to be mindful of other cyclists and walkers when using the asphalt route; it can get quite crowded in the summer. If you want to take a moment to rest or simply enjoy the view of the lake, you will find numerous benches along the trail. If the route around the lake is too short for you, you can enhance your adventure by also cycling around Pogoria IV, which is located about 200 m further. This will extend your trip to 21 km.
Why Pogoria III?
Because it is the perfect place for a family getaway. You can spend the whole day by the water, and there’s something for everyone – for those who want to tire themselves out and for those who seek peace. In the area, you will find the “Zielona Park,” where you can stroll along the green paths, find shade from the sun, and mentally escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
