Agate Museum in Rudno
Wonderfully coloured agates have captivated attention since ancient times when they were made into amulets, seals, and signets. Over the centuries, they have continued to delight with their incredible multicoloured bands. Near Krzeszowice, in Rudno, a museum called "Treasures of this Earth" has been established, run by Mr Witold Koprucha, who has been involved in searching for and processing these amazing stones for many years.
Why Rudno?
The museum is located in Lesser Poland, near Kraków, in a small village called Rudno. In its vicinity, you can find Tenczyn Castle, Wroński Pond, numerous cycling trails leading through the Dulowa Forest, and in front of the museum building, there is a convenient, large paid parking area. It is no coincidence that "Treasures of this Earth" was established in Rudno. The village is situated on a volcanic hill of rocks that are enriched with silica, featuring an incredible colour palette. Most of the exhibited specimens originate from Rudno.
Museum Attractions
In addition to agates, the museum features various fossil specimens from the Jurassic Sea – the same one that existed in the area of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland over 160 million years ago. Additionally, a trained eye can spot unique specimens from the Ice Age in the collection. During the tour, visitors pass through four rooms dedicated to agates, a room dedicated to the Jurassic Sea, and multimedia rooms. The museum showcases over 1600 agates in glass display cases, and more eggs are waiting to be processed.
Workshops
Recently, the museum has introduced workshops aimed at children and teenagers titled "Treasures of this Earth at Your Fingertips." During the sessions, participants have a unique opportunity to learn about the Rudno area and its geology, search for agates, and see firsthand demonstrations of how they are cut and polished. The schedule also includes time for exploring the museum with a guide.
