Kazimierz Dolny
The pearl of the Lublin Renaissance, a source of inspiration for artists and an exceptionally popular tourist destination. This is how Kazimierz Dolny is described - a tourist mecca on the map of Poland. The number of attractions from various categories means that every year this charming town welcomes thousands of visitors. Here, you can admire both the architectural beauty and the charms of nature. We present the attractions of Kazimierz Dolny.
Three Crosses Mountain
Adjoining the market square, the mountain serves as a viewpoint for the entire charming town and the Vistula River in the background. You can reach it from the square - by a shorter but steeper path or a longer, gentler one opposite the castle entrance, along Zamkowa Street. There is an entrance fee to access the mountain. At the summit, there are three crosses commemorating the victims of the cholera epidemic in the early 18th century.
Watchtower and Castle Ruins
The ruins of the castle along with the watchtower form a former fortification complex from the 14th century. They are connected to King Casimir the Great, just like the whole town. Currently open to visitors. From the watchtower, there is a magnificent panorama of Kazimierz and its surroundings. One can see the nearby Puławy with the characteristic chimneys of the Chemical Plant.
Market Square
The most atmospheric place in Kazimierz. It features historic, decorated townhouses with a characteristic well in its central part. It is the heart of the town - here you will find eateries and souvenir shops, with Kazimierz roosters taking the lead. Like most medieval towns, there are two squares here - one main and a smaller one. The Small Market currently has numerous stalls with paintings and handicrafts.
Vistula Boulevards
A place where we often start our tour of Kazimierz - due to the largest parking area for cars and buses, which is located right along the boulevard. An ideal place for walkers. From here, you can embark on a boat cruise along the Vistula.
Reformed Monastery
At the junction of Krakowska and Klasztorna streets, narrow, winding stairs lead to the monastery located on a hill. It was established at the end of the 16th century in a place called Windy Mountain - according to historians, the beginnings and development of settlement in Kazimierz, dating back to the end of the 12th century, are recorded in the vicinity of Windy Mountain.
Parish Church
Also known as the Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Bartholomew. It is presented as a model example of Lublin Renaissance, a style of architecture characteristic of the Lublin region in the 17th century. It houses the oldest organs in Poland as well as an unusual lamp decoration called melusina made of antlers. The church is located right by the market.
Root Gorge
For nature lovers, a fascinating place to see in Kazimierz is the Root Gorge. It is located a bit off the beaten path - on Doły Street, about 2.5 kilometers from the market, which can be reached using a golf cart. Night tours of the gorge with torches are also becoming popular. Due to the protruding tree roots, it is incredibly picturesque. Entrance to the gorge is subject to a fee.
Jewish Cemetery
The Czerniawy cemetery is a majestic place commemorating the tragic fate of the Jews. A dozen or so gravestones located in the forest and a symbolic wailing wall prompt contemplation and reflection.
